Meet Julie

Julie MuellerI think teaching is one of the most important and rewarding vocations and I look forward to helping faculty and GTF’s, especially in the sciences, develop plans for successful and effective courses. I also welcome the challenge of identifying and finding solutions to problems that arise along the way. To keep my own teaching skills sharp I teach the chemistry portion of the Teaching and Learning Center’s MCAT prep course.

I earned a B.S. in chemistry from Marquette University and received my M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in physical chemistry from Cornell University. I was an assistant professor of chemistry at Santa Clara University, where I taught mostly general and physical chemistry lecture and laboratory courses before moving to Eugene in 2006. My research involved using lasers to break apart gas-phase molecules and employing various techniques to probe the products, answering questions about what kinds of products are formed and how much energy they have. Interest in environmental questions and the atmosphere in particular led me to concentrate mainly on atmospherically important molecules such as ozone and nitrogen dioxide.

Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my husband and two young sons. I like to bake, and we all like reading and going to the library, playing in parks, and hiking, though the perpetual battle against weeds in the yard prevents doing the latter as often as we’d like!
