Meet Jason

Jason SchreinerTeachers have the great privilege of helping others to discover, develop, and realize their potentials.  As a TEP consultant I approach my work in a similar way: serving as a resource and guide that faculty and graduate students can use to empower themselves to become more effective teachers, confident in their ability to help students learn and grow.

I am available to help any faculty member, adjunct instructor, or GTF to envision, develop, refine, or refresh course plans, presentation skills, group activities, assignments and assessment tools, team teaching, or other areas of teaching interest or concern, especially in the humanities and social sciences. My particular specialties are development of interactive lectures, facilitation of lively classroom discussions, development of teaching philosophy statements, as well as GTF and adjunct issues.

My undergraduate degree is in American Studies (University of Kansas), and my graduate degree is in Environmental Studies (University of Oregon). In both cases my training spanned a variety of disciplines, so I am comfortable working with diverse academic approaches, especially interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary endeavors that bridge arts and sciences and professional schools.

I also serve as an instructor for the UO Environmental Studies Program, where I teach core introductory courses in the humanities and social sciences, and I teach a Freshman Interest Group (FIG) called “Justice, Beauty and Nature.” I also regularly teach a seminar on course design for GTFs at UO. Previously I have taught as an adjunct instructor for the Department of Philosophy at Oregon State University, and as a GTF for the UO Environmental Studies Program. In addition to my university experience, I have taught and facilitated numerous workshops and trainings in the non-profit sector, with a particular emphasis on environmental literacy and sustainability issues.

When I’m not working at UO, I enjoy adventures with my wife, daughter, and son, and I keep myself busy with gardening, cooking, reading, yoga, and giving presentations on sustainability in the community.
