Questions to Consider: You in your field...
Reflect on your earliest encounters with the field in which you teach. Consider the following questions:
- When did you first feel drawn to it?
- What was it that drew you?
- What within you was evoked by this field: its values, its methods, the way it names and frames reality?
- What does the nature of this field reveal about who you are?
Livsey, R. C. (2000). The courage to teach: A guide for reflection and renewal. San Francisco: Jossey-Bass. (questions taken verbatim)
All of these questions explore the relationship between you and your discipline. Remembering what it was that first drew you to a particular field can help you experience again that initial excitement. While deeper reflection can uncover what it is that this connection expresses about you as an individual.
