Forming a Paper Thesis and Hypothesis

These guides help students understand how to formulate and refine a thesis and hypothesis. They outline the essential qualities of good assertions and provide examples of common mistakes students make in these areas. These guides are probably best used as criteria for reflection or revision exercises. Ask students to evaluate their theses according to these criteria, or incorporate it into your rubrics. Thanks to Alison Kwok for the hypothesis worksheet.
