Discussion sections have a reputation for being boring/blow-off. How do I overcome this?
- Acknowledge this reputation on the first day of class, and declare it as
your combined mission (you and your class) to disprove that myth. Solicit
suggestions, written or verbal, about how to go about doing that.
- Use small-group activities whenever possible. These are also known as "Collective Learning" techniques. Here are some examples.
