Rethinking and Improving
- I went through lots of my own experimenting this year. The first quarter differs much from the third. I think that's important too, to keep trying and adjusting the class so that it works. And to not be afraid of making mistakes, they happen, just be sure to change it for the next time around. I've found that students need structure. But it's how you structure something that is important. I've found that I'm more strict when students slack. I'm strict about attendance and late attendance. I'm clear about the format of their work (i.e. double space, typed, clear assignments.) I find that I have to check up on them and I can accomplish that by giving smaller assignments to make sure they are doing the readings, doing the work. It gives me more paper work, but that way I find that students are more prepared for class.
