Teaching first year students is challenging. Many have been very successful in high school with minimal effort and assume that they will be able to do the same at the university level. Others are not as well prepared and find themselves overwhelmed from the very first week.
This workshop will demonstrate how instructors can build into their assignments skills which significantly advance the reading, writing, and thinking abilities of first year students.
