Preparing to Teach: A Brown Bag Discussion on What the Best Teachers Do to Plan

Thursday, November 17 (Week 8)
11:00am-1:00pm, 51 PLC
To register contact Jason Schreiner, jschrein@uoregon.edu

Facilitator: Jason Schreiner, Teaching Effectiveness Program

You are invited to bring your lunch and join an informal TEP brown bag lunch discussion of key questions to consider when planning your teaching. The discussion will focus in part on the chapter, “How Do They Prepare to Teach?” in Ken Bain’s book, What The Best College Teachers Do (reading will be emailed ahead of time). We’ll discuss student motivation, course expectations and rigor, critical thinking, and assessment of student learning, among others. This will be an opportunity to share and explore with your colleagues what has worked well, and perhaps not so well in the past. The discussion will also allow us to reflect on previous terms and to consider new ideas for upcoming terms.
