Campus Climate begins with Classroom Climate

Presenters: Tim McMahon and Kimi Mojica, Director, Diversity Education and Support Services, Office of Student Life

A 2001 survey found that 53% of the respondents felt that the campus climate at the UO was not welcoming for students from underrepresented groups. Feeling estranged in a classroom, for whatever reason, can lead to a reluctance to participate, disengagement from the learning process and often a below par performance. In this workshop we will offer specific suggestions for what instructors can do to create syllabi, facilitate class discussions, and deliver content in ways that support success for all students.
