Beginnings: Insights, Tools and Strategies for New Teachers

This is the on-line version of Beginnings: Insights, Tools and Strategies for New Teachers-- a week-long course the Teaching Effectiveness Program conducts each fall to prepare new graduate teaching fellows for their first teaching assignment. It is our hope that this information will help you walk into your class on that first day feeling solid and confident.

This online resource is not meant to replace the traditional face-to-face course. It would be best if you could be part of the discussions, have the opportunity to microteach, receive feedback and learn from other participants. However, some of you are far enough away from campus that commuting in is impractical and others do not get their teaching assignments until after the campus training has finished. It is our hope that this site can help you get started.

Please note: the majority of GTFs who take Beginnings will lead and facilitate a discussion section or lab. They will not be teaching a course on their own. However, the basic fundamentals of teaching which will be addressed apply to anyone who teaches.
